More places to go (and a couple of deadlines)!
A number of new events are now listed below and on the calendar, including PAG XXVII and several Prairie Oat Grower Association (POGA)-related AGMs. Today (November 2nd) is the LAST DAY for early-bird registration for PAG. Register by 11:59 Pacific Daylight Time (GMT -7) to get the best rates! Also, November 15th is the abstract submission deadline for GRC2019 in Gatersleben, as well as the last day for early-bird registration!
In terms of past events, I mentioned last time that the 25th Golden Spurtle competition was coming up. This year, the winners were from Sweden and Scotland. You can watch a really nice little video from the German team here. (Don’t worry if you can’t speak German!)
These events are all about sharing information and networking. In that same spirit, the U.S. Plant Breeding Coordinating Committee (PBCC) has created “a state-by-state map of programs involved in plant breeding research, germplasm enhancement and/or variety development”. A few oat breeding programs are represented, but it would be nice to see more added. Information about how to connect is in the linked document above (also in the "Community News" section).
Finally, two of our oat breeders were recently made Fellows of the Crop Science Society of America (Weikai Yan) and the American Society of Agronomy (Amir Ibrahim). Congratulations, Amir and Weikai!
