The newest member of the oat community joined us on Tuesday, August 10, 2021. Congratulations to Georgie Troup on the safe arrival of her son, Samuel Edward Somers!

This brief update brings opportunities for young researchers in the form of three job opportunities:

• PhD-level Discovery Breeder with PepsiCo in Rhineland, WI, USA,
• Postdoctoral Research Associate in Oat Breeding at South Dakota State University in Brookings, SD, USA, and
• Postdoctoral position analyzing databased breeding data at USDA-ARS on the Cornell University campus in Ithaca, NY, USA.

This is also a reminder that numerous webinars and meetings are coming up, including many that will be held in-person or as hybrid conferences. Please take a look at the calendar, and be sure to check deadlines for registrations and abstract submissions! The next event is Ontario Oat Day, being held by Grain Farmers of Ontario this Tuesday, August 17th. Remember, too, that the deadline for submissions to the special issue of Foods journal: “Barley and Oats: Chemistry, Health Benefits, Processing and Utilization” is August 31st!
