(An Oat Newsletter update example) April events galore!

Happy Passover and Happy Holi to everyone celebrating those events!

Below are oat-related events of potential interest in April (well, one starts in March), all of which can be found on the Oat Newsletter calendar (https://oatnews.org/):

  • The XL Meeting of the Brazilian Oat Research Commission will be take place from Tuesday, March 30th to Thursday, April 1st.  The event will be held virtually, in Portuguese.

     

  • Thursday, April 1st at 11:00 am CDT, Jenneth Johanson (POGA) and Kirby Nilsen (Brandon RDC, AAFC) will speak about oats in Canada at the Grainews: Hot Topics in Commodities webinar.

     

  • Thursday, April 8th, from 1:00 – 2:00 pm MDT is the Alberta Oat Gowers Commission (AOGC) 2021 AGM.

     

  • The Resilient Northern Crops Network (NordCrop) is having a virtual meeting from Wednesday, April 14th to Thursday, April 15th.  Note that the times given are CEST (Sweden).

     

  • The next “Speaking of Oats…” webinar will be held Thursday, April 15th at 2:00 pm EST (note that this is not our usual time!):
    • “Technological Advances That Can Accelerate Oat Improvement.”
      Presented by Jorge Dubcovsky (University of California-Davis, USA), Isabel Alicia del Blanco (University of California-Davis, USA), and Jaswinder Singh (McGill University, Canada).
      The advances discussed will include using genetic transformation for the decoding and tuning of oat genes.

  • The North American Millers’ Association (NAMA) 2021 Spring Conference will be held virtually on April 16th, 19th, and 20th.  Note that certain parts of the meeting are only open to members.

     

  • For those of you in the USA, Steve Harrison’s Wheat, Oat, and Cover Crop Field Day will be held in Winnsboro, LA, on April 22nd.  Please contact Steve for more information or reply to this email.
